Today, 5th November 2025, is National Stress Awareness Day, a reminder to pause and reflect on the things that weigh on our minds, and more importantly, how facing them can free us.
There’s a famous quote often attributed to Carl Jung: “What you resist, persists.”
It’s a simple truth. The more we avoid what stresses us, the more that stress lingers quietly in the background, growing rather than fading.
One of the areas where I see this most clearly is estate planning.
Many people tell me that thinking about wills, their estate, and what happens after they’re gone feels too heavy, too uncomfortable, or simply “something to do later.” It’s completely understandable; no one likes to dwell on difficult topics.
But here’s the irony: choosing the “easier” option now by avoiding it only multiplies the stress later, not for you, but for the people you love most.
When there’s no clear plan in place:
• Families are left uncertain about your wishes.
• Disagreements and disputes can arise over assets.
• Even worse, a poorly drafted or unplanned will can cost your estate dearly in legal fees and emotional strain.
One of my clients once told me, after finally sorting her affairs following more than a year of hesitation: “I feel so much lighter, I should have done this sooner.”
That sense of relief, clarity, and peace is something I see time and time again. Facing what stresses us doesn’t just remove the burden; it replaces it with calm.
So on this Stress Awareness Day, perhaps take a moment to ask yourself:
👉 What’s one thing you’ve been putting off because it feels stressful?
Whether it’s updating your Will, planning your estate, or simply having a difficult conversation, taking that step might be the very thing that brings you the most peace.
